prayer list

Prayer is such an important aspect of our faith journey, a direct connnection to God, the root of all that we endeavour to do. It is a child talking with its Father, a friend conversing with a friend, something that is both intimate and interior. Saint Therese of Lisieux stated that, “For me, prayer is an uplifting of the heart, a glance toward heaven, a cry of gratitude and of love in times of sorrow as well as of joy.” (Divine Intimacy, Meditation 146 Prayer).

Below is a listing of selected prayers that we have provided for your immediate reference and convenience:

The apostles' creed

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God
the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge
the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.

The lord's prayer

Our Father,
who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

The hail mary

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

The glory be

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

The fatima prayer

O my Jesus,
forgive us our sins,
save us from the fires of Hell,
and lead all souls to Heaven,
especially those in most need of Thy mercy.

The memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Marythat never
was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was
left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virigins, my Mother; to thee I come,
before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful; O Mother
of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petition, but
in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Prayer to st. Michael the archangel

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Prayer to st. Raphael the archangel

Glorius Archangel St. Raphael,
great prince of the heavenly court,
you are illustrious for your gifts of
wisdom and grace. You are a guide of
those who journey by land or sea or air,
consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners.

I beg you, assist me in all my needs and in all the
sufferings of this life, as once you helped the young
Tobias on his travels. Because you are the “medicine
of God,” I humbly pray you to heal the many
infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body.
I especially ask of you the favour (name it) and the
great grace of purity to prepare me to be the
temple of the Holy Spirt. Amen.

Prayer to st. Gabriel

O Blessed archangel Gabriel,
we beseech thee to intercede for us
at the throne of Divine Mercy in our
present necessities, that as you did
announce to Mary the mystery of the
Incarnation, so through your prayers
and patronage in Heaven,
we may obtain the benefits of the same,
and sing the praise of God forever. Amen.

Prayer of st. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

The confiteor

I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done
and in what I have failed to do,
through my fault,
through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Act of contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having
offended You, because I dread the loss of
Heaven and the pains of Hell, but most of all,
because they offend You, my God, Who are
all good and deserving of my love.

I firmly resolve with the help of Your grace, to
confess my sins, do penance, to avoid the
proximate occasion of sin and never to sin
anymore. Amen
